Parents and Health Professionals, what do you think new parents should know?

Press Release 18th of June, Cyprus

You can help shape the content of Cyprus’ FIRST and FREE web-app for pregnant couples accompanying their journey to parenthood. There is a lot of information on the internet about pregnancy, childbirth and infant care, but not much of it is in Greek, let alone adjusted to the reality of the Cypriot Health Care System. Parents, Gynecologists, Midwives, Paediatricians, what do you think new parents should know? Please participate in the survey on www.babybuddyforward.com.

The survey is part of the EU Erasmus Plus programme “Baby Buddy Forward” led by the Cyprus University of Technology, Department of Nursing, School of Health Sciences and Birth Forward with partners from the UK, Greece and Germany and supported by the Cyprus Ministry of Health, Cyprus Obstetrics and Gynecology Society, Cyprus Society of Perinatal Medicine, Cyprus Pediatric Society, and the Midwives Committee of the Cyprus Nurses and Midwives Association.

“Baby Buddy Forward” aims to create a multilingual information platform to help guide the transition into parenthood in an easy to understand language, accessible at any point of time convenient to the parents. It uses tailored rich material including audiovisual material to connect with the parents. It is an educational resource with evidence-based, bite sized pieces of information for each day from early pregnancy up to the six months of baby's life.

The Cyprus edition of Baby Buddy v will be based on the existing Baby Buddy™ app, developed in the United Kingdom by Registered Charity and project partner Best Beginnings (https://www.bestbeginnings.org.uk). The project is Baby Buddy’s first international trip! Baby Buddy is endorsed by all relevant UK professional associations such as the Royal College of Midwifery, the Royal College of Obstetricians & Gynecologists, the Royal College of Paediatrics & Child Health, and the Institute of Health Visiting and more.

In this context, the online survey is addressed to both the professional community (gynecologists, midwives, pediatricians, health visitors and other health professionals) as well as the future and new parents of Cyprus to participate. The set of your recommendations will identify the final themes to include in Baby Buddy Cyprus. This is important in order to ensure that the content reflects local priorities and meets the real needs and expectations of pregnant women and their partners in Cyprus. If you want to contribute to shaping the content of Baby Buddy, please visit the programme's website at www.babybuddyforward.com, and fill in the online survey.

From the first days of pregnancy, a couple will experience new and unprecedented situations in their transition to becoming parents, which can bring great joy but also cause anxiety. In fact, this is a period when most of us are looking for information on the internet, but how can we be sure that this information is scientifically accurate and reliable? Baby Buddy Forward’s platform will create a new model of care, providing a trusted source of information, support and empowerment for couples and a complementary tool for health professionals to support their educational role.

The Project Baby Buddy Forward is funded by Erasmus+: «Adult Education» (implementation period: September 2017-August 2020).
